Our Mission

South Florida Urban Ministries seeks to partner with churches and organizations to create and expand ministries of compassion and justice in the communities of Southeast Florida.

We fulfill our mission by collaborating and working with community organizations and churches across denominational lines in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties to help them build strong urban ministries through technical assistance, training, fundraising, leadership development, capacity building, coordination of services, and vision-strategy development. Through these churches and organizations we empower people to move from poverty to prosperity through holistic youth development, small business development and hunger relief ministries.

Our Values
We are a Christ-centered organization.
We are called to be instruments of love through word and action.
We believe God compels us to serve with compassion and guides us into the future.
We value inclusivity (diversity) in our service and partnerships.
We uphold social justice, welfare, and reconciliation through our ministries and relationships.
We affirm the value of each person and commit to help them reach their potential.
Our History

Miami Urban Ministries (MUM) was established in 1973 as the urban ministry and social justice agency of the Miami District United Methodist Churches. From housing rehabilitation to hospice care to hurricane relief, we have always served the disadvantaged, the poor, and those suffering from social injustices through advocacy, direct services, and empowerment. During the last five years, under the leadership of Executive Director Brent Hursey-McLaughlin, the organization has grown from its roots to offer more extensive programming to move people from poverty to prosperity. In 2005, MUM changed its' name to South Florida Urban Ministries, Inc. (SFLUM) as programming expanded into new areas throughout South Florida.
